We are primarily established to empower women and girls in Nigeria as well as fight for their rights. Women Aspire Empowerment Initiative is a membership driven organization with members spread across the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory.

We are committed to advocating for women’s rights and working towards gender equality, enabling women and girls to realize their full potential and become active participants in shaping a more inclusive and equitable society.

Our vision is a Nigeria where women and girls are empowered, uplifted, and their rights are respected. We envision a society where women have equal access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and decision-making positions. Through our efforts, we aspire to foster a culture of gender equality, where every woman and girl can exercise their agency, contribute to the development of their communities, and lead fulfilling lives. We strive to create a future where Nigerian women are celebrated for their achievements and their voices are heard and valued in all spheres of society.

Advocacy
- Climate Justice and Women’s Rights:
- Advocate for policies that integrate gender-sensitive approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
- Highlight how climate change disproportionately affects women and girls, especially in vulnerable communities, and advocate for their inclusion in decision-making processes related to climate action.
- Building Feminist Leadership in Climate Action:
- Empower women leaders within your organization and communities to advocate for climate resilience and sustainable development.
- Offer training programs on climate change advocacy and leadership for women, emphasizing their role in promoting climate justice.
Economic Empowerment
- Climate-Resilient Livelihoods:
- Integrate climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livelihood practices into economic empowerment programs.
- Provide training and support for women entrepreneurs in green technologies, renewable energy, and eco-friendly business practices.
- Capacity Building for Climate Adaptation:

- Implement community development projects that integrate climate-resilient infrastructure, such as climate-smart community health centres, sustainable markets, and disaster-resilient housing.

Research
- Gender and Climate Change Studies:
- Conduct research on the gendered impacts of climate change in Nigeria, focusing on local contexts and specific vulnerabilities of women and girls.
- Use research findings to advocate for evidence-based policies and programs that address these vulnerabilities and promote resilience.
- Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building:
- Disseminate research findings through workshops, conferences, and publications to raise awareness among stakeholders about the intersection of gender, climate change, and development.
- Build the capacity of local researchers and community members to conduct gender-sensitive climate change research and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.

Governance
The Governing body of WAEI is the Executive Council comprising of the Trustees and executive members involved in the day-to-day operations of the entity. There are two layers of decision making: the Executive leadership and the Executive Council who may sit to approve projects for the organization.

Financial Information
WAEI relies heavily on donor funds and crowd funding to run its operations. It is committed to both internal and external audit objective oversight to improve its operations’ effectiveness and efficiency. We engage the independent services of chartered accountants, in line with the requirements of the Federal Inland Revenue Services, to audit our accounts for transparency and compliance. Our financial statements are public documents that can be accessed on this website.

Program Implementation
WAEI carries out its operations in the 6 geo-political regions of Nigeria. Our programs are designed with the input and participation of beneficiaries because we believe that people should participate in the processes of finding solutions to their problems.
Procurement Principle
We follow a gender-responsive procurement process where women can confidently compete with their male counterpart in any field. At the core of WAEI is the empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria; therefore, we give preferential treatment to women-owned businesses that are managed and controlled by mostly women and girls.

We recognise that Nigeria is a culturally diverse environment. Inclusiveness is paramount to us while not undermining competence and skills. Being a gender sensitive organisation, we give preference to the female gender in all our employment. Sixty per cent of our workforce must be female who are selected through a transparent and competitive process by our human resource department.
